Reflexology is one of the many complementary therapy services available at the COUCH Wellness Centre in Cairns for people living with cancer and undergoing cancer treatment.
There is evidence that shows that Reflexology can assist with relaxation, pain relief, provide better sleep, improve stress and low mood, and provide a general feeling of well-being.
Reflexology is a form of complementary therapy which, through the massage of the feet or hands, aims to promote wellness in other areas of the body. Modern reflexology is based on the principle that the foot has ‘reflex’ points that correspond to the various structures and organs throughout the body.
Reflexology is beneficial for people living with cancer and undergoing cancer treatments, as it has been shown to:
What can I expect at my first appointment?
During your first treatment, the Reflexologist will ask you questions about your cancer diagnosis and treatments, and discuss with you how a reflexology program will be tailored specifically for your individual needs in order to support you with your treatment and any side-effects you may be experiencing.
Reflexology is a little different to a standard foot or hand massage. Whilst still being deeply relaxing, the Therapist will use targeted motions on points in your feet and hands to promote healing and recovery.
How long are the appointments, and how often should I have a Reflexology Session?
Reflexology sessions are generally an hour in length, however if you require a shorter appointment due to any discomfort then your therapist will work with you to accommodate your needs.
A reflexology program can be tailored to meet your health needs. Your Therapist will advise of a supportive individualised plan to help improve your well-being. All consults focus on restoring wellness and offer clinical therapeutic benefit.
We have Reflexology appointments available every Tuesday and Thursday at the COUCH Wellness Centre.
Will I be able to claim this through my private health?
Private Health rebates are not currently available for reflexology appointments, however we do offer subsidised rates for Care Partnership Clients.
