The services and supports provided at the COUCH Wellness Centre also extend to those who are caring for someone living with cancer. Being a Carer is often a role people fall into and usually without a good understanding of what ‘Caring for someone with cancer’ all means. The COUCH Wellness Centre is holding the Caring for Carers Program, specifically for people who are caring for someone living with cancer. This program, a first of its kind in Cairns has been funded by Cairns Regional Council through their community services grant program with the aim to help build awareness of the various supports and services available within the region for Carers.
People who are caring for someone living with cancer are urged to register for this free 4-week program, which focuses on answering many of the questions Carers often have around practical advice, assistance, available supports and health and well-being management. There is also an emphasis on self-care for the Carer; to make sure their cup is full, so they can keep topping up others. Attendees will also receive basic first aid training to support their role as a Carer. The program covers all the things no one ever tells you about being a Carer, but you need to know.
The program runs for 4 weeks, with attendance at each workshop from 2pm – 4pm on 4th, 10th, 18th, 25th October at the COUCH Wellness Centre. 100-114 Reservoir Road, Manoora. Phone 4032 0820 or to register or for more details. Registrations close 2nd October.
