How does it work? Trade Up for Charity - whilst new to Far North Queensland - is not an original idea. This fundraising project has been inspired by Demi Skipper (30), a product manager in San Francisco who started the Trade Me Project. Starting with a bobby pin, within a year and a half, she traded items for an something of greater value until she traded 'up' to a house! It took her 28 trades over a year and a half to get to a house.
Demi Skipper, herself was also inspired by a Canadian man who traded a paperclip for a house through 14 trades over one year from 2005 to 2006. The question, “Could she do the same?” She shared her experience on social media - posting her very first TikTok about the trade with zero followers in May 2020. Now she has 5 million!
"When I saw this idea, I thought this would be a great event for Charity and I personally know that COUCH is a local Charity that heavily relies on fundraising and does an amazing job here in the Cairns Community!"
"We don’t know where the project will end – it may be a car – a caravan – a block of land or ideally a house! It will be a journey that may warp and change over time however the main goal it to raise as much money as possible for the charity!" - Kate Fern
It is also am amazing opportunity for people to find out more about who we are and what we do.
