COUCH Wellness Centre

With Cairns now definately receiving radiation treatment facilities for cancer patients, COUCH’s focus has now turned to post treatment care and to provide Cairns with a broader concept of wellness and a more holistic apporach to health care.

Location

Land at 100-114 Reservoir Road, Manoora has been donated by the Woodward Family and a Memorandum of Understanding is in place between the Woodward Family and Cairns COUCH Ltd. The land is broken down into 3 sections:-

  • Lot 1:- The land donated to COUCH
  • Lot 2:- Owned by the Woodward Family

The last section in between Lot 1 and 2 is the Palm Forest that will be retained as a protected area. 

Emphasis

The main objective is to build a Wellness Centre that will be available to all cancer sufferers and their carers. The centrewill provide many therapies designed to help with the recovery of the mind, body and soul. This room and scope to build accommodation and ancillary services to compliment the Wellness Centre.

Wellness

The World Health Organisation defines Wellness as:-

“A state of complete physical, mental and social well being, not mrely the absence of disease or infirmity”.

This defination has paved the way for the broader concept of wellness and a more holistic approach to health care in which many dimensions of our lives are considered.
